Below is highlights from Buddyhead’s Best & Worst of 2005. I disagree with a couple of their picks, but as always buddyhead is good for a laugh!

The Bravery
2005 was like an SNL skit based on that wave of New York “cool” bands that had every writer at Spin and NME shooting up Lower East Side white boy cum into their bloodless veins, and there is no better example of that than The Bravery. Look… when The Killers call you out for being posers, then you know you’re somewhere between the shithouse and the gutter. We’re hoping for a Biggie/2Pac ending to this one, but instead these snake handlers will probably have a dance-off or whatever haircut disco fruitcake bands do nowadays.

She Wants Revenge
“These Things”

The musical equivalent of picking up the soap. This band is a lot like that time you accidentally walked into the bathroom while your dad was jacking off… it’s just embarrassing for everyone involved. These guys have Interpol’s gigglesticks shoved so far down their throats, they must have been porno stars in a previous life, cos their gag reflexes are fully under control. Yet another fine addition to Fred Durst’s label, She Wants Revenge stand side by side other sham-tastic beef gravy guzzlers Puddle of Mudd, Staind, and Cold. Dumb sluts and metro-sexual dudes who use their Bloc Party baby tees as jizz rags are super into this bullshit. You still might not have heard of this band yet, so check out their website here to get a better idea of what this is all about.

Jason Mraz
“Mr. A-Z”

Thanks to this ass-assassin we’re now aware of what the sonic parallel to being sodomized in jail sounds like. Mixing the “funky white guy” sounds of The Dave Matthews Band, and the rhythm-less hip hop “skills” of Will Smith, Jason Mraz has created the perfect soundtrack for attempting the impossible task of sucking your own dick. Rich white college guys with sideways trucker caps and pooka shell necklaces who are trapped in the closet are super psyched on this crap.

- $6000 to the first person to dual boot XP and OSX on the new Macs. I think Apple made a bad move on this one. They used a firmware EFI instead of BIOS. The biggest thing I don’t understand is OSX speaks for itself, why not let people dual boot on it? You will get a ton of new customers! One of my friends has a powerbook and runs all unix open binary programs and has his powerbook dual boot to linux. If I had the time I would go that router. Its just hard leaving my XP/Linux dual boot, I have a lot more freeware/open source software options that way and with my radio/wifi/gps stuff apple developers are lacking. We’ll see.

secure cert

Over the past 5 years I’ve been using Verisign for my clients secure certificates (for secured encrypted online shopping). Verisign is about $350 a certificate and takes a little over a week to get one (faxing back and forth) and their customer support is hands down the worst I have ever dealt with. I have been reading a lot about Geotrust and how they are actually providing a higher encryption level for the price and their process and support is much better. So zeropresence went through the process of becoming a official GeoTrust reseller/issuer (lots of paperwork) and one of our large clients (feamerch.com) had a certificate up for renewal this month. Tonight Kohler and I were able to issue the certificate in 2 minutes, install it and upgrade them to 256bit encryption (from 128bit) in less an 10mins. Not to mention we got them a better price than Verisign and I can personally make any changes to the certificate at anytime for them.

I’m impressed, so go buy a shirt now with even more security…

<<< On the left (if I have my itunes open) you will see what I am listening to. I got the code itunes working tonight that allows you the vistor to see what I am currently listening to (and the song I just listened to) in my itunes or airport throughout the house. It uses xml, php and ftp. Its has some bugs... for example a lot of the classic rock I listen to it will pull up the newer mix CDs instead of the actual album. All in all its a decent job. So here's a peek into my listening habbits...

If my itunes is not open you won't see anything, so check back if you don't see it.

I don’t fly a lot but everytime I have flown Southwest they have sucked. Why does A&E have a show called “Airline” showing how much southwest sucks. I am sure they are trying show you the personal touch to running an airline, thats great and all but when I am stuck in some city or you lost my bag I don’t care who you are I hate you.

The Ultimate LOST Theory – I’ve given this show a chance a couple of times, but it’s just too damn unbelievable for me to get into it. All those people would have died in a week, or eaten the fat guy. So this is for my friends who are fans… cough cleary cough.

I’ve been using Mystickies lately with a couple of clients. Works great! I need to get all my clients to use this.

I love this script.

Apple ripped off the Postal Service? Yup.

I’ll post today’s playlist later…

There is a lot going on over at Stone Brewing! They are adding a new brewery and restaurant. This is a great local company, great people and amazing beer. The CEO has a blog with an interesting view into building a small company into something truely huge. I used to live on the same block as Stone and its been great to see this company grow. I used to have to drive over to their factory to get their beer and now its in most all stores. High five

datacenters

-Viawest.net buys Verio’s San Diego and Rochester data center facilities. I have call with Viawest tomorrow to see how they work and their plans for the future, if its not a good fit we are going to move our Verio rack. The big question is will they stay on Verio’s backbone? If they do we might stay, not they try to bring in their own backbone we are gone. I want to tour Complex Drive’s datacenter, I have heard good things about them. They host all the skateboard.com and tumyeto.com sites we used to host back in the day. I heard cogent is being ran through Level 3 here in San Diego. I also wanna tour Level 3’s datacenter as well.

-Google Earth is finally available now for Mac. I used to use Keyhole (google bought keyhole) and over the years its been a great piece of software for getting directions and finding trails for camping/backpacking. the PC version works great with GPS.

-Microsoft, Apple Sign 5-Year Software Pact

-Google talk sucks.

-Thunderbird 1.5 just came out!

I just upgraded to Wordpress 2.0. Read about what is new. Biggest changes I like are:

1. When you add a link you can choose the target now.

2. You can upload photos into your post directly without using a image URL.

3. Better database structure for my hack job plugin mods.

4. Much better admin CSS.

Heather and TJ came down for a visit and brought us some new issues of Vice Magazine. We really need to subscribe because we can’t get that in San Diego.
